Sequin fabric is a type of fabric that is made up of sequins which are small round or shaped pieces of metal or plastic that can be sewn together.
The word sequin comes from the Italian word "secco" which means dry, and it was first used in English to describe a type of needlepoint embroidery.
The use of sequins in clothing dates back to the 18th century when it was used as decoration for military uniforms and formal wear. In the 19th century, sequin fabric became popular in Europe for women's clothing and it has been used ever since to add visual interest and glamour to clothing and more recently, craft items and projects.
